- संविधान सभा ने 1949 में हिंदी को भारत की आधिकारिक भाषा का दर्जा दिया था.

- रुस के पेर्म क्राई में 2008 को पेर्म हवाई अड्डे पर एअरोफ़्लोट विमान 821 के दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो जाने से विमान में सवार सभी 88 लोग मारे गए।
- भारत ने 2009 में श्रीलंका को 46 रनों से हराकर त्रिकोणीय सीरीज का कॉम्पैक कप जीता। भारत में लिएण्डर पेस व चेकगणराज्य के लुकास ड्लोही ने महेश भूपति और मार्क नोल्स की जोड़ी को हराकर यू. एस. ओपन के पुरुष युगल का ख़िताब जीता।
