On 15 May 2020, the Defense Minister approved the Defense Testing Infrastructure Scheme. The scheme will be implemented at an estimated amount of Rs 400 crore. The Defense Research and Development Organization and 41 ordinance factories in the country have built test facilities for ammunition, firearms, radar and electronic weapons. This will help boost the country’s indigenous defense capabilities, particularly among MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) and startups.

Economic package

• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the fifth and final installment of the economic package to counter the impact of COVID-19 on the economy

• MGNREGS allocation increased by Rs 40,000 crore to provide employment incentives

Health

• Public expenditure on health will be increased to invest in grassroots health institutions and repair health and wellness centers
